The people and their stories
Throughout my travels across this vast country, I’ve been fortunate to witness remarkable moments and meet some of the most fascinating individuals. These journeys have given me countless stories to share, especially when accompanied by one of America’s oldest and most revered treasures: whiskey. This spirit holds a unique chapter in American history—it was the first domestically produced product taxed by the government. Predictably, this decision was met with defiance. In 1791, President George Washington, seeking to reduce national debt, imposed the liquor tax, sparking the infamous Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. Washington himself led 1,300 troops to stop the uprising, but by the time he arrived, the resistance had already dissolved. The tax was ultimately repealed in 1801, thanks to Thomas Jefferson’s intervention.
Today, whiskey is crafted in nearly every state, each bottle brimming with its own tale—whether from a small-batch distiller, a centuries-old recipe, a hidden barrel brought back to life, or simply raw moonshine. Behind every glass lies a story, and behind every story, a person eager to share it.
